Angling is Far Worse than Hunting
On
the left are the arguments which failed to save hunting
and on the right is the comparison with angling - Compare
them in your letters and local campaigns.

Hunting
|
Angling
|
| Foxes
are a pest whose numbers need controlling |
Fish
are not a pest - numbers do not need controlling. If a
water has too many fish then electro-fishing, to painlessly
stun and relocate them, is used by the Environment Agency. |
| Foxes
kill thousands of lambs each year as well as poultry and
ground nesting birds. |
Fish
swim about minding their own business causing no harm
to mankind. |
| Foxes
carry mange and other diseases which infect domestic pets
and humans |
Fish
swim about minding their own business causing no harm
to mankind or their pets. |
| Hunting
either kills the fox or it escapes unharmed |
Fish
are hooked in agony, tortured for up to an hour, hooks
ripped out with pliers causing dreadful injuries to mouth
or gills, starved of oxygen and then released to be hooked
and tortured all over again. |
| Death
occurs in seconds and is painless |
Death
is slow and long drawn out in absolute agony while the
fish struggles to escape. Fish which will be eaten are
'played' on the end of a hook for up to an hour before
eventually being clubbed to death. Inedible Fish after
being hooked, tortured, injured and eventually returned
to the water frequently die hours or days later. The Angling
press frequently has comments on this. |
| Hunting
conserves the countryside and the fox population |
Angling
brings litter to the river bank and lakeside. Poisons
swans, ducks and other waterfowl with lead weights. Kills
swans, ducks and other waterfowl through being tangled
in discarded line or swallowing viciously barbed hooks
dropped by anglers.Lakes are polluted by 'ground bait'
- huge quantities of food designed to attract fish to
the angler's bait. |
| Hunting
improves the species by weeding out the old, sick and
injured animals |
Angling
tortures and then sets fish loose to be caught again and
again. It does nothing to improve the species or remove
old and sick fish. It does create dead waters with only
a single fish type such as carp in lakes - destroying
diversity of species. |
| If
hunting is banned thousands of horses and hounds will
have to be killed. |
If
angling is banned not one animal will have to be put down,
but millions of fish will be saved from unspeakable cruelty
and suffering; thousands of wild birds will be saved from
agonising deaths through fishing line and hooks. |
| Villages
and whole sections of the countryside rely on hunting
for their income and their social life. |
Angling
is a cruel sport and no town, village or countryside area
has an economy based upon it. Fishing has no social life
attached to it. |
| If
hunting is banned more foxes will be killed in far more
cruel ways |
When
Angling is banned fish will no longer be tortured and
needlessly killed saving millions of fish from needless
cruelty each year. |
| Around
1 million people are involved in hunting - you can't ban
it. |
3
million people involved in torturing millions of fish
every year is many, many times worse than the cruelty
inflicted on animals by hunting. The number of people
involved in senseless acts of cruelty of this kind only
make it so many times worse and more urgent to stop. |
| Hunting
is a way of life which teaches respect for the countryside
and its wildlife |
Angling
is a 'sport' which relies on inflicting pain, suffering
and cruelty upon harmless fish. It makes young people
believe that inflicting senseless cruelty on a helpless
animal is a 'fun' way to pass their time. |
| Foxes
are a wild animal which no longer has any other control
on its numbers other than man. |
Fish
are specially bred and reared to be put in lakes purely
to provide the sadists who fish with the pleasure of catching
and torturing the fish time and time again until the fish
dies. |
| Arguments
used to try and keep hunting from a ban failed. Angling
fails every time when measured against these arguments
from the pro-hunters. That is why when the Hunting Bill
is passed a Bill to Ban Angling can come forwards. |
