Angling
is Cruel - says Head of RSPCA |
| |
Jackie
Ballard, new Chief executive of the RSPCA, has promised the
RSPCA will campaign more strongly and has stated that she
believes Angling is Cruel.
Ex
Taunton MP Jackie Ballard, a tough campaigner against the
hunt scum, only lost her seat at the last election by a handful
of votes after being singled out for what has been described
as a hate compaign promoted by organistions representing angling,
hunting and shooting interests.
|
|
|
Interviewed recently she made her position very clear "I
don't like coarse fishing. Fishing for food is probably acceptable,
but it's cruel to stick a hook in a fish's jaw and then fling
it back."
She
has said that she is a Strong Campaigner and will bring that
to her role as Chief Executive of the RSPCA.
The
position of the RSPCA on angling is set out below :-
|
 |
- 'RSPCA
Policies on Animal Welfare: (Revised 1997)
-
6.1 "The RSPCA is opposed to the infliction of pain and
suffering on any animal in the name of sport."
-
6.12.1 "The RSPCA believes that the current practises in
angling involve the infliction of pain and suffering on
fish."'.
|
 |
Against
Angling and Shooting
As well as wanting to see angling ended
Jackie Ballard has also made it clear that she is completely
opposed to shooting -
"In my view, breeding birds for the purpose of shooting them
is unacceptable. I really don't understand that mentality.
Why can't they be content with clay pigeons?"
|
 |
We
need more people like Jackie Ballard, standing up to fight
to end angling. Her personal views coupled with the RSPCA
position of ending cruelty to animals and confirming that
angling is cruel show there will be very strong activity from
them soon.
We
believe her new position at the RSPCA will ensure they are
soon at the forefront in the publicity campaign to hasten
the ban on angling.

|
We
Must All Keep the Pressure on New Labour and Bring an End
to Angling Cruelty Now.
