Tory hunt scum supporting MPs tried to claim that New Labour was sleazy over the Hunting Bill.

Tories tried to suggest that the £1 million donation given to new Labour by our colleagues campaigning against bloodsports was 'evidence' of sleaze because Labour have now brought forwards a Bill to Ban Hunting.

Using a thin and pathetic argument Tories also claimed that because Alun Michael's Bill gives Government funds to pay for Animal Rights organisations to challenge any application for a license from a hunt - that this 'proved' sleaze.

This was swiftly denied by the Labour members of the Committee who made it very clear that it was essential for the Animal Rights Organisations to be funded to be able to challenge any hunt which applied for a license. They made it clear that Government funds being channelled to Animal Rights organisations was not a way for Labour to reward them for their earlier donations..

The committee meeting was heated but, under a firm Chair with a steady pair of hands, the Labour majority on the committee held their ground. The Tories' ludicrous, unscrupulous and unfounded claims were dismissed.

Political Donations are a touchy subject. The Tory controlled press love to try and make a scandal out of a genuine donation. They have nearly succeeded on occasions over the Ecclestone £1million, the Hinduja brothers, Rumanian steel works and more but each time Labour have proved that there was no sleaze, just mischief-making over coincidences.

But donations are donations and political parties need them and are pleased to accept them. There does not have to be an ulterior motive in them, and we don't believe that there has been.

How can it be wrong to support a political party which you know shares your own aims. New Labour need financial support. They have policies to end hunting which we agree with. Their approach to hunting will end angling and shooting.

There is nothing wrong with any of us making a donation of whatever we can afford to support New Labour and we should do it.

At the time you make it, how can it be wrong to write saying that you are making it because you support whatever it is they are doing which you want to see happen?
